Many birds, including the Robin and Wren and the Blackbird and Thrush prefer open fronted boxes as opposed to those with a small entrance hole. The main threat to this type of nest box is the danger from predators and the easy access to the nest site. Except for the Wagtail and Flycatcher, all open fronted boxes are well hidden in deep, thick undergrowth. This fact needs to be considered when sighting your own open fronted box. To further deter predators, it's a good idea to wrap the box in a "ball" of chicken wire.
Medium Open Fronted Box
This box is designed to cater for the needs of both the Blackbird and Song Thrush. Only available in pine and with the same height as the Small Open Box. However, both width and depth of the box has been increased to cater for these larger birds. They incorporate all our usual design and safety features, which make these boxes the best available.
All of our bird boxes can be easily converted to accommodate a camera. The design gives sufficient height to allow for the installation of the camera without getting in the way of the nest or entrance hole.
