The Great Spotted Woodpecker is a difficult bird to encourage too nest as they like to excavate their own nests. To encourage the woodpecker to use your box, a block of soft balsa wood is attached to the inside of the 50mm entrance hole. This allows the bird to "create" its own hole. Further realism should be added by stuffing the box with a well rotted log. This box has the same dimensions and 50mm hole as the Jackdaw Box.
The Jackdaw Box
This large box has a 50mm entrance hole. If you would like to try and get your Jackdaws to nest somewhere else other than your chimney pot, try this box for size. This sized box, depending upon where its sited, will also encourage Doves and certain Owls, especially the Tawny which is becoming a much more common sight in urban UK.
All of our bird boxes can be easily converted to accommodate a camera. The design gives sufficient height to allow for the installation of the camera without getting in the way of the nest or entrance hole.
